Facial contouring usually refers to the adding of shape to midface; the temples, cheeks, or jawline, or a combination of all three, but can include augmentation of other areas, such as the chin. The real skill of any practitioner performing the treatments lies in understanding the subtle relationships between the different facial features, and the knowledge that altering one will alter the appearance of another. Facial contouring aims to correct facial imbalances and define lines, e.g. the jawline, and ultimately restore features to how they previously looked, or better.

The Temples

As we age, the temples can lose volume due to a reduction in collagen, elastin and soft tissue. This may lead to a reduction of the structural support in the temple area, giving way to thinner skin and wrinkles and folds. Dermal fillers in the temple area can combat these issues by restoring lost volume and give a more youthful appearance as a result.

The Cheeks

Volume loss in the cheeks can occur at any age. Changes in tissue, bones and a reduction in collagen and elastic all contribute. The subtle use of dermal fillers, in expert hands, allow you to regain volume in the cheek area, define the cheek bones, and promote a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles.

The Jawline

Jawline fillers are designed to alter the profile of the jaw. The use of dermal fillers along the jawline can really enhance the face, especially when performed in conjunction with dermal fillers in other areas. Defining the jawline is a simple process for a skilled injector. Dermal fillers are injected in small amounts along the jawline. Straight lines can be created where there were none when the jawline is slimmed or widened. Jawline fillers act in synergy with other facial contouring techniques to dramatically improve facial balance.

The Chin

The profile of the chin is sometimes included in a facial contouring treatment as many patients of a certain age feel their chin has lost volume. We can include the chin in a facial contouring treatment. A small amount of filler in this area can really work wonders, especially when other contouring treatments have been performed further along the jawline.
